So it shows up more than you'd think, at least in League. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of others (I could swear Tristana and either Teemo or Rumble had a thing, but I can't find a reference).Įtc. Kassadin is straight (has a daughter, so.)Įvelyn is bi/pan (although her archetype is generally male predatory, unlike Elise, she has a piece of fiction involving her preying on a woman too so.)Īhri is ? (same archetype thing as Evelynn, but I forget if she's portrayed as preying on both or either gender)Īnd this is all off the top of my head without really having read much in the way of League's fiction beyond like, the lore backgrounds. Gangplank is straight (had his heart broken by Illaoi) Garen is straight (him and Kat have a thing for each other)Įlise is straight (was married to a man, her sexual predations are styled after the general femme fatale which leans towards preying on men) It doesn't count if it isn't presented).Įz is straight (crushes on Lux canonically, I'm pretty sure) Note, any character who only has a romantic partner of one sex will be considered straight for purposes because otherwise we have to start arguing about potential bisexuality and that is a road I don't want to walk.

So, off the top of my head for League (some of these require lore knowledge, others are in the plain text). Note that I am counting Developer Comments as External Media. Only a third of games had any LGBT characters at all. Gamesįor reference, 8.1% of US Millenials Identify as LGBT. I also only tried to include explicit or near-explicit representation.

In the case of Hearthstone and Shadowverse, I only paid attention to the default free leaders. I limited myself to 25 games due to laziness.

I then googled to see if any character was confirmed gay. My shitty methodology was grabbing games through a mix of and the current Evo 2020 lineup. I may have missed a variety of characters or games. The most classic examples of this are fighting games, but it also includes MOBAs, FPSes and even some card games, where characters represent a class of cards.ĭisclaimer: I haven't played every game here, and all this information is mainly through some quick googling. To clarify, I am looking at games which are Player vs Player, and where players choose a character to play before fighting another player. It's almost Pride Month, so to celebrate I wanted to do an analysis of Playable Characters in Competitive Multiplayer Games.
